Waterproofing of terrace with standing waters with polyurethane water membrane

What do we need?

In cases where there are no inclinations  formed on the concrete slab, we have the phenomenon of standing waters, whenever there is rainfall. We should protect the surface terrace from moisture to avoid further problems either at the surface of the concrete slab (terrace) or on the ceiling of the house (from the bottom of the roof) .

How do we do it?

To protect the surface from the standing water, we should apply the hybrid waterproofing membrane FLX 388 PU, which offers high protection from moisture and is highly resistant to UV rays and mechanical stress.

Step by step

  

Remove any loose from the concrete slab.

Wash with plenty of water so as not to leave any residues (dust, oil, grease) and any molds and algae that have been developed to the plate surface. Standing waters should be removed.

Prime all surfaces with high penetration  acrylic primer GLX 292 FLEX PRIM. Large cracks (> 5 mm) and gaps close with fiber reinforced repairing mortar WRM 525.

At the corners of the barriers to the plate, creating with WRM 518 an appropriate curve so as not to let water stand at this point.

When the surfaces dry thoroughly,  apply two layers crosswise with a roller the acrylic waterproofing emulsion FLX 388 PU.

The first coat is applied diluted with 20-30% water.

When the substrate is cracked strongly recommended that the THRAKON FABRIC with at least three layers of material, between the two coats of FLX 388 PU.

If loads of moisture are expected to be larger, then a third coat is applied. Each hand is applied when the previous has dried.

The application of the material should be avoided when there is forecast for rain on the day of application.

The surfaces on which the sealing emulsion FLX 388 PU has been applied, should have slight patency.

The properties of FLX 388 PU are visible 7 days after its application.

Terrace waterproofing with cement based product and covering with tiles

What do we need?

Many times in cement casting purposes applicable to terraces, after hardening , created hairline cracks (<1mm). Sometimes there are cracks in the masonry of the contact points.
Even there may be an increased porosity of the concrete. In all these cases there is water leakage from the surface to the plate and to the inner surfaces resulting in the formation of moisture and mold walls and destruction of color. Even can occur much more severe problems such as corrosion of the reinforcement plate which is dangerous for the statics of the construction.

How do we do it?

Because cracks on terraces and much more connections between surfaces show contraction for the insulation used flexible 2-component brushable DSF 353 SUPER ELASTIC.

Step by step

In case you wish to apply roof tiles (decorative reasons, aesthetic, etc.), you should have a proper waterproofing, which provides excellent protection and long life. Substrate should be thoroughly cleaned.

STEP 1: Prime the surface with the acrylic high penetration primer, GLX 292 FLEX PRIM. Where an acrylic membrane has been previously applied, you should apply quartz sand primer GLX 190, in order to improve the adhesion of the substrate

STEP 2: Apply by brush or roller, crosswise two layers of the elastic 2 component brushable sealing slurry DSF 353 SUPER ELASTIC. Since the color does not matter, choose gray

STEP 3: The application of DSF 353 SUPER ELASTIC should also be done at the vertical elements of the balcony in order to protect them from standing water. At corners, apply the waterproofing tape for better protection against standing water. While the first layer of DSF 353 SUPER ELASTIC is still fresh, waterproofing tape is positioned

STEP 4: At the corners apply the THRAKON special items (Inner – Outer corner), after applying the first coat. While it is still fresh, a waterproofing special item is positioned

STEP 5: Apply the second layer of DSF 353 SUPER ELASTIC. If you want to leave it exposed as a final surface, the application should be made in 3 layers. For the last coat, use a white product, which provides protection from Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation

STEP 6: Proceed with applying adhesive VKW 129 ULTRA FLEX, which is super elastic (C2TE S2), suitable for the most demanding welds

STEP 7: When applying the tiles, place the special profile, depending on the layout of the tiles (a cross, «T» or «Y»)

STEP 8: After completing the positioning of the tiles, apply the rotary screw – stem system, until it is on the surface of the tiles

STEP 9: Remove the upper part of the special piece, pulling or giving a slight kick in the screw-stem. The screw – stem, can be reused

STEP 1: The substrate should be thoroughly cleaned with a broom from any loose particles, dust etc

STEP 2: Apply the repairing mortar WRM 525, which has particularly high resistance (R4), in order to repair defects (pits) that are present on the substrate

STEP 3: Clean the surface with water under pressure. If there is standing water, you need to remove it with a rubber spatula to continue with the application of the primer

STEP 4: Apply the two component primer FLX 390 PU PRIMER in one layer. For absorbent surfaces apply FLX 390 POROUS PRIMER

Terrace waterproofing with Bituminous emulsions

What do we need?

Many times in cement casting purposes applicable to terraces, after hardening , created hairline cracks (<1mm). Sometimes there are cracks in the masonry of the contact points. Even may have increased porosity due to poor construction of the mixture. In all these cases there is water leakage from the surface to the plate and to the inner surfaces resulting in the formation of moisture and mold walls and destruction of color. Even can occur much more severe problems such as corrosion of the reinforcement plate which is dangerous for the statics of the construction.

How do we do it?

Because cracks on balconies and terraces and much more connections between surfaces show contraction for the insulation used bitumen emulsion of an ingredient BORNIT®-Fundamentdicht 1K, which will be the interim waterproofing between slab and  cement mortar.

  • The substrate must be clean, solid , stable and free from grease , oil and loose particles . The existence minimum humidity is not a problem but wherever drops of water and standing water should be removed.
  • Large cracks (> 5 mm) and gaps close with fiber reinforced repairing mortar WRM 525.
  • At the corners of the barriers to the plate, creating with WRM 518 appropriate curve so as not to gather the water to this point.
  • Prime with asphalt primer BORNIT®- FUNDAMENTGRUND all surfaces on which to apply the materials.
  • The brushable coating « BORNIT® – 1K Fundamentdicht » is ready to use and do not require stirring. Spread with spatula ” comb ” or trowel finish. To achieve uniform thickness of the seal layer should be applied in 2 layers.
  • The application of the second layer is made after the complete drying of the first .
  • Protect the fresh coating from rain and intense sunlight. The material is not allowed after application to remain unsecured as destroyed by UV radiation.
  • Do not use the product when it is raining or when rain is expected and when the outdoor temperature and the substrate temperature is lower than + 5 ° C.
  • Finally , after drying the material following the application of the cement .
