What do we need?
Trowel for polished cement mortar, roller, airless spray gun, paintbrush, brush for liquid-applied waterproofing products.
STEP 1
Surface Cleaning: The surface must be clean, sound, dry and free from contaminants that may affect the adhesion of the materials. Dust, oils, grease and loose or friable materials must be thoroughly removed.
STEP 2
Floor Screed Application: NSD 600 floor screed is applied for floor formation, levelling and surface smoothing. The material can be applied mechanically using a continuous mixing machine or manually. It is evenly spread at a thickness of 8 cm, creating a durable and stable surface with high mechanical strength and strong adhesion to concrete.
It is suitable for preparing floors prior to the installation of tiles, marble, parquet and other final floor coverings. NSD 600 offers excellent workability, can be applied on inclined surfaces and provides high compressive and flexural strength, ensuring a stable and reliable substrate.
STEP 3
Surface Waterproofing: STRONG DSF 360 liquid-applied waterproofing mortar is applied in at least two cross coats using a brush or trowel, ensuring complete coverage and strong adhesion across the entire surface. Each coat is applied at a thickness of up to 1 mm, while the total application thickness is typically 2–3 mm, depending on the waterproofing requirements.
The subsequent coat is applied once the previous one has acquired sufficient consistency. In areas exposed to increased hydrostatic pressure, the application of a third coat is recommended. At joints, corners and connections, reinforcement with suitable waterproofing tape or glass-fibre mesh is recommended to ensure watertightness and reduce the risk of cracking.
STEP 4
DECOR ART Colour Selection: THRAKON provides the possibility of selecting from a wide range of colours by choosing the desired shade from the THRAKON CLIMAPLUS colour chart.
STEP 5
Application of the 1st DECOR Polished Cement Mortar Coat: The first coat of DECOR polished cement mortar is applied using a notched trowel in a combed pattern at a thickness of 2 mm. Once the material has acquired sufficient cohesion, the CLIMAPLUS 160 g/m² glass-fibre reinforcement mesh is applied.
STEP 6
Application of CLIMAPLUS 160 g/m² Glass-Fibre Reinforcement Mesh: The 160 g/m² reinforcement mesh is embedded into the fresh DECOR layer. It is installed vertically and pressed with a stainless-steel finishing trowel so that it is fully embedded in the mortar. The mesh sheets overlap by 10–15 cm, ensuring reinforcement of the system and reducing the risk of future cracking.
STEP 7
Application of the 2nd DECOR Polished Cement Mortar Coat: Once the first coat has set sufficiently on the surface while remaining uncured throughout its thickness, the second coat is applied to fully cover the mesh. Application is carried out wet-on-wet using a smooth trowel.
For each surface, whether wall or floor, it is recommended that the application be completed on the same day to avoid visible joints. Where required, additional coats may be applied, provided that no varnish has previously been applied.
STEP 8
Priming of the Polished Cement Mortar: At least 48 hours after application of DECOR, the polished cement mortar surface is prepared to receive the protective varnish. DÉCOR PRIM impregnation primer is applied using a paintbrush, roller or airless spray gun, ensuring deep penetration and uniform absorption into the surface.
The material must be absorbed by the substrate and must not remain on the surface forming a film. Any excess material must be removed. Where a second coat is required, it is applied at least 4 hours after the first, depending on application conditions. Consumption is approximately 100–150 ml/m², depending on the absorbency of the surface and dilution.
STEP 9
Final Surface Protection: DECOR PU VARNISH, a two-component polyurethane protective varnish, is applied in at least two coats using a roller or brush, ensuring good penetration and uniform coverage of the surface. The second coat is applied within 24 hours of the previous coat, depending on the application temperature.
For demanding applications, such as swimming pools, tanks, showers and surfaces exposed to standing water or hydrostatic pressure, the application of at least three coats is recommended to ensure the required surface protection and waterproofing.
