What do we need?
Trowel for polished cement mortar, roller, airless spray gun, paintbrush, trowel, plastering machine.
STEP 1
Masonry Construction: For masonry construction and the formation of structural elements, MIX 280 cement-based masonry mortar is applied. The mortar is applied in a uniform layer of 1.5–2.0 cm thickness, ensuring full contact and strong adhesion between the building elements and the substrate. During installation, the elements are properly aligned and levelled, while the joints are completely filled without voids. After completion of the work, excess mortar is removed and the surfaces are cleaned with a damp sponge. The wall can receive the render after approximately 24 hours.
STEP 2
Surface Preparation: Before applying the final render, SHP 205 Spatter Coat is applied. The material is mechanically applied using a spray gun or plastering machine and, where required, manually using a plastering trowel. It is evenly applied to masonry, concrete and ceilings, creating a rough surface that acts as a bonding bridge for the subsequent render layers. It is applied at a thickness of 5 mm, ensuring complete coverage of the surfaces and voids. SHP 205 contributes to uniform absorption and proper surface preparation for the final rendering.
STEP 3
Render Application: NHP 270, THRAKON’s white lightweight one-coat render, is applied. It is suitable for interior and exterior surfaces made of aerated concrete, brick, stone and concrete. Application is carried out using a plastering machine or manually, at a thickness of 1–3 cm per coat, with particular attention to uniform distribution and levelling of the material. After application, the surface is levelled by pressing the material and, once it has reached the appropriate hardness, it is rubbed with a hard foam float and finally smoothed with a trowel.
STEP 4
Surface Priming: GLX 292 FLEX PRIM, THRAKON’s high-penetration acrylic primer, is applied to stabilize the surface and reduce its absorbency. It is applied undiluted using a paintbrush, roller or airless spray onto a clean, dry surface free from dust, oils and loose materials. The recoating time is approximately 4 hours.
STEP 5
DECOR ART Colour Selection: THRAKON provides the possibility of selecting from a wide range of colours by choosing the desired shade from the THRAKON CLIMAPLUS colour chart.
STEP 6
Application of the 1st DECOR Polished Cement Mortar Coat: The first coat of DECOR polished cement mortar is applied using a notched trowel in a combed pattern at a thickness of 2 mm. Once the material has acquired sufficient cohesion, the CLIMAPLUS 160 g/m² glass-fibre reinforcement mesh is applied.
STEP 7
Application of CLIMAPLUS 160 g/m² Glass-Fibre Reinforcement Mesh: The 160 g/m² reinforcement mesh is embedded into the fresh DECOR layer. It is installed vertically and pressed with a stainless-steel finishing trowel so that it is fully embedded in the mortar. The mesh sheets overlap by 10–15 cm, ensuring reinforcement of the system and reducing the risk of future cracking.
STEP 8
Application of the 2nd DECOR Polished Cement Mortar Coat: Once the first coat has set sufficiently on the surface while remaining uncured throughout its thickness, the second coat is applied to fully cover the mesh. Application is carried out wet-on-wet using a smooth trowel. For each surface, whether wall or floor, it is recommended that the application be completed on the same day to avoid visible joints. Where required, additional coats may be applied, provided that no varnish has previously been applied.
STEP 9
Priming of the Polished Cement Mortar: At least 48 hours after application of DECOR, the polished cement mortar surface is prepared to receive the protective varnish. DÉCOR PRIM impregnation primer is applied using a paintbrush, roller or airless spray gun, ensuring deep penetration and uniform absorption into the surface.
The material must be absorbed by the substrate and must not remain on the surface forming a film. Any excess material must be removed. Where a second coat is required, it is applied at least 4 hours after the first, depending on application conditions. Consumption is approximately 100–150 ml/m², depending on the absorbency of the surface and dilution.
STEP 10
Final Surface Protection: DECOR PU VARNISH, a two-component polyurethane protective varnish, is applied in at least two coats using a roller or brush, ensuring good penetration and uniform coverage of the surface. The second coat is applied within 24 hours of the previous coat, depending on the application temperature.
For demanding applications, such as swimming pools, tanks, showers and surfaces exposed to standing water or hydrostatic pressure, the application of at least three coats is recommended to ensure the required surface protection and waterproofing.
