Bathroom Tiling
What do we need?
Tiling in places that are under the influence of medium moisture loads ( periodic ) as bathrooms, showers, toilets , etc . , have increased demands on resistance and durability over time as well as should provide complete protection and prevent the risk of penetration of water vapor and behind the tiles due to possible detachment .
How do we do it?
Ideal solution are adhesives with increased elasticity like VKW 126 or VKW 128 and water-repellent grouts FMF 150 and FMF 160 LUX. Also recommended and waterproofing of masonry before paving with the waterproofing system of the acrylic brushable membrane DSF 300 FLEX HYDROSTOP.

Step by step
- To prepare the surface and applying the adhesive see the Guidelines for Adhesives.
- In the event that required filling and leveling of the floor it can be done with the cement floors of THRAKON.
- If required filling and leveling of the wall can be applied any of the plastering Systems of THRAKON.
- Before bonding the tiles waterproof surfaces using acrylic brushable membrane DSF 300 FLEX HYDROSTOP. 5.For grouting used the grouts of THRAKON. The floors grouting and patency is allowed after 24 hours, while wall grouting is allowed after 12 hours.
Signs of the application that need special attention:
- The wall tiles must be stopped over the tile floor to a height of 3-5 mm depending on the expected contraction of the surface. We achieve thereby the water and water vapor escape (possibly running off the wall) on the tiles of the floor and from there into the sewer siphon. Otherwise there is a risk of water ingress through contact of the tiles to the substrate of the floor. At these locations, apply anti-mould silicone sealant ANTI-MOULD.
- The slopes should always be in the center area of the bath and arrive at their lowest point in the siphon. DO NOT leave slopes that are prone to point (edge) where the wall joins the floor.
- Toilet basin, sink columns and other sanitary items stuck on the tiles after the installation and not on the floor of the substrate.
- When applying tiles with different thickness calculate the minimum amount of adhesive for thicker tiles not to have a large thickness of the adhesive for bonding the finest to leveling the final surface.
- For surfaces that require adhesive thickness greater than 2 cm, smooth the surface in advance either with the same adhesive or mud MIX 280 (for large deviations). In cases of large holes that need to be smooth out (eg. Close window) mainly use plasterboard or brick.
- It is good the height of tiles not exceed the height of the door. Since we have high-ceilinged space for aesthetic reasons, it is advisable to create false ceiling
- If using insulation sheets to not broadcast the sound wave in adjacent rooms and skirting must be resting on the same deadening material with the floor.
- In the contact point of the tub with the plaster fill the gaps with cement mixture and plasticizer ANTI-LIME. Once the mixture ‘pull’ primed with acrylic primer high penetration GLX 292 FLEX PRIM and proceed to bonding the tiles.
- In built-in bathtub is good to leave in the form of rack or cabinet drawer open to allow inspection of drainage of the tub or jacuzzi possible mechanism.
- In built-in washbasins priming the surface of the sink and around this area before bonding the tiles with acrylic high penetration primer GLX 292 FLEX PRIM. On edges sink-wall union or around the sink can create protective film for moisture with a thin adhesive layer and next day to priming and bond the tiles with the same adhesive. Such a waterproofing is usually formed behind the tiles, and are mostly coated surfaces of fluid spaces. The primary requirement for a proper seal is resistance to permanent moisture, resistance and reliability in time, because repair intervention for the waterproofing after the application is difficult and costly.
